Nurture& The Glider Plus: An Honest Review

If you’re going to splurge on anything during pregnancy, I highly recommend investing in a good nursing chair. One that glides and reclines and bonus has lumbar support.

I bought the overly hyped up Instagram find. The Glider Plus from Nurture& and no, I do not have a coupon for you to use–I should probably get one of those, huh?

Anyways, I was sold on this one because I tested out nursing chairs at Pottery Barn and of course the one I fell in love with happened to be over $2,000. So I figured the Glider Plus has all the same features and it’s under $1500–SOLD! (P.S, even without a coupon code, they have sales. In reality, I should’ve waited for the Independence Day sale because I would’ve saved a whole lot more than someone else’s coupon code, but it worked out since I utilized it so many times before the fourth of July.

I chose it because of my chronic pain, not once thinking how it has helped me numerous instances like those terrible acid reflux I’ve been referring to in previous posts.

The Glider Plus not only has an electric recliner, but it features an adjustable headrest and lumbar support and prides itself on being stain resistant. It also has a USB port, which I feel is standard amongst all electric recliners anyway these days.

Due to chronic pain, I wanted to make sure I, first and foremost, am comfortable. Forget about a nursing chair intended to nurse, I needed something to save my back and neck from further pain. And this has saved me time and time again since receiving it making it well worth the investment already.

Acid reflux is a common pregnancy symptom, especially as pregnancy progresses and baby gets bigger shoving all other organs aside to make space for the growing baby.

I’ve had acid reflux in the past, so I am dealing with pre-existing acid reflux plus pregnancy-induced acid reflux and just being pregnant alone heightens every experience, so when I say my pregnancy journey has been far from easy, I am not exaggerating.

I find myself most comfortable in my nursing chair than in my bed solely because of the recline and lumbar support features alone and for the past month and a half, I have been spending most of my nights reclined than propping myself up in bed with a stack of pillows causing a strain on my lower back. At least with the lumbar support, my lower back suffers less. I usually move to the bed to lay flat when I wake in the middle of the night, letting enough time pass so the lingering acid reflux from well over 2 hours prior has settled.

That has been the biggest bonus of all–buying it for my chronic pain and it being used well because of acid reflux. So even if you’re not looking at the Glider Plus or anything on Nurture&, I still recommend splurging on one that fits all your needs.

Now for the REVIEW part of it all!

The Glider Plus isn’t at all that it’s hyped to be. All the reviews I watched on YouTube made it look so unbelievably amazing. I’ve been thinking about uploading an honest vlog post myself, but who am I kidding, I haven’t vlogged in ages and no matter how much I say I’ll return to it someday, I just never get around to it.

Anyways, for starters, the chair is EXTREMELY heavy. It comes in two parts, which makes it, supposedly, “easy” to assemble and the sitting part is the heaviest to say the least. You need to find that ONE spot on the bottom of the chair to get a good grip on it, but even that was hard to find. And for something that seems really easy to install, we had much difficulty doing so and there’s no step by step video for dummies either. Like Nurture&, this is your sign to please rectify the situation!!

There’s only two options for delivery, one where they charge a buttload to deliver to the room of your choice, but without assembling it (like what’s the point?) or plain delivery to your door (but not inside your home) and you have to lug it up yourself. I was lucky to have the delivery driver drop it off inside my garage–I’m lucky to even have a garage (not that thieves could run off with it so easily).

If you live in an apartment building with no elevator and want to purchase this, I recommend spending the extra money and have them deliver to the room of your choice, just know they will NOT assemble it for you.

One thing I’ve noticed since using it is the jarring recline feature. I’m not sure if I can explain it well through words alone, but whenever I press the recline button either to recline or revert back to a chair setting, the recline itself gives a lil jolt. It doesn’t seem as soft like a soft drawer close you’d find in a kitchen cabinet nowadays and since baby isn’t here yet, I can’t tell if this jarring stop movement motion would be in regards to my sleeping baby.

And it’s a lot louder than what people are saying on their videos. I remember waking up my heavy sleeping husband when I reclined one time in the middle of the night. He doesn’t really wake up now, since I use it so much, but every now and then, I am on super high alert when the sound echoes throughout the room.

Bottom line: is the hype worth it?

The chair is great and super comfortable, but it is a bit over-hyped with all the highly praised reviews saying the exact same thing. And the videos, honestly, make it seem like the easiest thing to put together. But maybe we’re just dumb and didn’t know how to work it for an hour. It was easy once we figured out what we had to do though, so there’s that. I’m still pretty happy with it despite all the flaws and I’d do it all over again, but maybe end up paying the extra money to deliver it upstairs. My hubby nearly threw his back out doing it himself.

In the end, the choice is up to you. What are you looking for in a nursing chair? How tall are you? You want to find one where you can rest your head with ease. I’m 5’9 and it works for me. I don’t know if this is a deal breaker though, but I have noticed my feet dangle off of the recline footrest, which maybe is because of my height. Make sure you take measurements into accountability too! Recliners usually take up more room because they recline. Gliders are nicer, IMO, than rocking chairs because as baby grows older, those rockers could easily pinch a finger or toe.

A really big downside about this chair is you cannot test it out anywhere. They offer a, I believe, it’s a 30-day trial or your money back guarantee, but they just throw it out and it becomes trash and how on earth are you supposed to get it out of the house to “return” it knowing how difficult it was to bring it into the house? Returning it just doesn’t seem worth it at that point.

As far as splurges go though, this is a reasonable splurge for every feature it has. It’s not Pottery Barn expensive, so this is a great alternative to those higher end ones without sacrificing too much on quality.

All in all, I am thankful for this nursing chair, it’s worked wonders for my back and acid reflux since I got it and it’s comfy too. Despite the headache of assembling it, my husband is also in love with it. I just wish there were more honest reviews out there.

Hope this helps and happy nursing chair hunting!
